After a VERY long trip, and not much sleep, we have arrived in Tokyo! We were met by Mr Hinuma, Mr Hayashi, Mr Araki and some of the English-speaking volunteer helpers at Narita Airport, put our suitcases in a van, and headed off to catch a train to Narita City. The students were each given the correct change to buy their own ticket from the ticket machine at the station, and then a quick lesson in how to use the tickets correctly.
Once we arrived in Narita, we went to visit a traditional Japanese yokan (traditional sweet jelly-style cake) maker. We watched a DVD showing the manufacturing process, tasted a sample, and learnt a little bit about the history of the company, which has been operating in Narita for over 100 years.
Next it was time for lunch (and a nice long rest!) We ate salad, french fries, and two types of pasta. It was great to be able to sit down and have a quiet chat and rest our legs.
After lunch we went on a tour of Narita Temple, parts of which are so old they are considered National Treasures. One of the buildings is over 300 years old.
Now, we are at our hotel, relaxing before meeting our volunteer guides and our sister-school's Principal for dinner in the hotel restaurant.
